The paintings of Doug Stotts are the result of an interest in the traditional techniques of oil painting, combined with the desire to paint a variety of subject matter from life. His work is an indication of where he lives, where he travels and subjects he simply finds interesting and challenging. His approach is straightforward and enthusiastic

Doug's upbringing was in Texas, after which he moved to California to continue his studies and concentrate on painting. He is a self-taught artist. Opportunities to paint in Italy, particularly Venice and in the Marches region, influenced what had been a typically California plein air direction. Additionally, he had the privilege of spending time at Bixby Ranch just north of Santa Barbara. It was a unique chance to use his plein air skills in one of the most magnificent locations left in California, nine miles of private, solitary undeveloped coastline.

His work has been shown in Montecito, California as well as Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Corona del Mar, and Rancho Santa Fe. His paintings hang in collections both private and public in the US and Europe.
